Your house is full cockroaches and you don't know how it happened. Your house is clean and you put away your food. If you wipe down counters and make sure that your garbage is covered. But you turn on a light one evening and a thousand cockroaches are scurrying for cover. Roaches can come into your house in a variety of different ways. Most of time they come in from the outside, but a good sealed house should eliminate that problem.

If your house is sealed and your house is clean, why ado you still have cockroaches? The insects can be brought in from outside, in grocery bags or school lunch boxes. They can be delivered in your mail and even come from factories which pack their products in boxes. The prevention of roaches can start with you checking the packages and other items that you bring in from the outside. It is a habit for some people to take their plants out of the porch in the spring and fall and then bring them in the house that night. This is a serious mistake. Your plant makes perfect taxis for cockroaches coming into your house. They can burrow underneath the soil or hide in a leaf or a fold in the trunk of the plant. You leave the plant under a window and forget about it. But as soon as the lights are out, the hidden cockroach will start exploring. They might even find a mate -- and then your house will be infested.

Cockroaches can also enter your house with the mail. If you shop online and have your purchases delivered to your house, that packaging might have been sitting in a warehouse in Thailand or in Florida and roaches may have traveled with it all the way to your home. The bugs lay their eggs inside the envelope or between the folds of the paper. After you open your mail dispose of your envelopes and packages. Put them in a sealed garbage can or outside, away from your door.

Your child could bring cockroaches home from school in their lunch bag or lunchbox. Roaches love paper bags, especially round paper bags. If your child's lunchbox or lunch bag sat next to another child’s, whose house was infested with roaches, they can go from one lunch bag to the other and either lay eggs in the lunch bag or use it as easy transportation into your home. Check your child's lunch bag when they come home or have them stored away at school.
