Roaches are a nasty insect and can infest the house for days, if not months. One roach can give birth to thousands of others and soon your house will be crawling with these little vermin. Even if your house is clean and you have sprayed for cockroaches, they can still get into your house from the outside. The best prevention method is to seal up your house so the cockroaches will never be able to get inside of it. Start with your doors. All the doors in your house need weather stripping or caulking to prevent roaches from sliding underneath the door and between cracks.

Every single open space needs to be covered. A roach can crawl beneath a door, or through a hole the size of a penny. If you have a window on your door you might want to caulk the frame around the window, in case there's enough room for the roach to get through. Your home needs to be sealed from the outside in: make sure that your windows have screens that are free from holes or rips. The screens need to be adjusted so that there is no gap between the screen frame and the inside window. In the summer, if you have your window open for the breeze, cockroaches will be able to come inside through any small gap. You are giving the roach a open invitation if those windows are not sealed tight. If you do not have screens on your Windows then make sure that the frame of the window is caulked tightly.

If you have sliding windows, make sure that there is a rubber piece edged between the glass and a window frame. Walk around your house and look at the various openings. Vents of all kinds create significant access points for cockroaches. That includes the air circulation vents under the eaves and dryer vents near the base of the foundation. Spaces around an outdoor water faucet, or cracks in your foundation allow more ways into your home. The cracks may not look bad from the outside but if you were the size of a roach you would be able to squeeze through them and find other openings to the inside of your walls. Once inside these bugs can populate and infest your entire house within months.
