How To Prevent Roaches In Cardboard and Paper Grocery Bags

killing roaches

Preventing roaches takes a diligent eye and a lot of perseverance. Roaches can live anywhere but they prefer dark, damp places. The German cockroach loves grocery bags. This roach will infest a stack of paper grocery bags at the grocery store and then sneak home in between the flaps in the bottom of the bag. You will not even know that the roaches are there until the bag is put away or used. The roach may stay hidden until it is dark and then come out to infest your home. The best way to prevent this type of intrusion is to keep your paper grocery bags stored outside or in a sealed container.

Another great hiding place for roaches is the cardboard box. If you have stacks of cardboard boxes lying about your house, it creates an ideal nesting site for roaches. If you're not using a cardboard box, throw it away or store it in a sealed container where the roaches can not get into it. If you have a roach infestation it’s a good idea to throw away all your cardboard boxes. When you have treated the roach problem, you can bring home new cardboard boxes from the store.

It may be hard to imagine living without cardboard boxes or paper grocery bags, but you can easily replace these items with plastic. This provides a dry environment for your stored goods and at the same times keeps the roaches from infesting or nesting in your house. Plastic storage containers are also good for keeping moisture out so your goods can stay dry. Remember, roaches love moisture and a little dampness in a cardboard box can be a great nest.

During Christmas-time you need to discard of any cardboard boxes that you might get from family members, friends or guests. If the box is sent by a company or from a person whose house is infested with cockroaches, the cockroaches will hitch a ride and will soon be infesting your house. Don't just stack the gift boxes in a corner until later. Take the boxes outside immediately and get them away from your house.
